Nunawading Primary School

Thanks to the efforts of many we got back the land on Nunawading Primary School for use for public purposes . Our Council were persuaded to buy it!
This was not without reminding Whitehorse council , the leaders of the Houses of Parliament that local Councils were neglecting to purchase and use PUBLIC land under the wonderful provisions of the Subdivision act ( a 4% levy is placed on most subdivisions in the State )
We celebrated by having a marbles shootout , class lectures outside  and getting the  headmaster to ride our billy carts down busy Spring-vale rd.

Carter Avenue Nunawading

Going through mums estate recently I came across an impassioned letter of my father to Nunawading Council pleading with them not to aquire 9 of the house blocks he created when he subdivided his old orchard west of McCulloch st , which was our home ( 43) . Dad was always poor and he was destined to stay that way . Well poor in the way of cash flow ,  but we were always rich in other ways . Rich enough to share on his model'  always sharing the little we had and the rich bonus of ag produce that noone paid you enough for .

That wasn't the worst of it because the Education Department compulsorily aquired most of the rest of his orchard and poultry farm ( to the west of NS section of  Carter ave ) leaving him to , not only build the road,  but provide a house block to get back into McCulloch Street.
